About the Tea Journeyman

Thank you for taking a moment to read and learn about me, the Tea Journeyman. On this page, you will read about my history with tea, my credentials, and some personal details.

My experiences with loose leaf tea started about five years ago, and began in a very coincidental fashion. My beautiful wife came home one day with a bag of flavored loose leaf white tea from a popular mall chain store. I opened the bag and smelled the tea. Indeed it did smell quite inviting, especially considering my extremely limited experience with tea at the time. Naturally, my second question was “So how much did this cost?” My wife provided me with the answer. A few minutes passed before I regained consciousness and picked myself up off of the floor. Curious as to how it can be possible for tea to fetch such a high market price, I asked my wife to brew a pot of this tea. Before long, I was asking my wife to join me to the mall. This was the first time I had ever asked anyone to go to the mall. I began exploring the various tea blends and types offered from this store.

Eventually, something as simple as a problem with the company’s website caused me to explore other loose leaf tea online shops. I began buying from a couple of online retailers who I found to have some interesting teas and competitive prices. Soon thereafter, I began researching the process of importing tea directly. It began as small purchases of a few kilograms from a Chinese exporter who offered door-to-door wholesale delivery to the U.S. The teas were phenomenal. They were fresh, aromatic, and of a higher quality than I had previously found.

I then began my tea education, by completing the Certified Tea Professional course through the American Tea Masters Association (now International Tea Masters Association). I also started reading any tea related book that I could find. That was all just the beginning. I began talking about tea, preparing tea, and purchasing any interesting type of tea that I could afford. It was a short time later that I began my tea reviews blog, Tea Journeyman (https://teajourneyman.wordpress.com). However, I still wanted to make more of it than just a new hobby.

A few months later, I was introduced to someone who owned a successful local coffee roaster and distributor. This man had been contemplating starting a loose leaf tea line to compliment his coffee products. I met this man, and before long we were working together to develop a brand of loose leaf tea, which was later named Hē Chá Tea. I am proud to say that Hē Chá Tea is currently being sold in about twenty coffee shops, cafes, and bakeries in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and has been very well received by consumers. The number of businesses offering the Hē Chá Tea products is expected to increase significantly in the near future.

During this time developing Hē Chá Tea, I also began taking courses with the World Tea Academy, and have earned the Certified Tea Specialist certification. I intend on continuing my education with the World Tea Academy by participating in the advanced curriculum courses once they are offered. My collection of tea reading materials grew exponentially, and continues to do so.

I also perform tea tasting events at coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries, and other personal events. I offer consulting services to any business that is considering to get involved with tea.

If you represent a tea vendor, manufacturer, or other tea related business, and would like to see your tea and tea related products reviewed on this site, please contact me! All products will receive a thorough review to the best of my ability. Only positive reviews are posted on this site. I choose not to damage the reputation of any business or their products by posting negative reviews. If I do not like a product, then I will not feature it on this site. I am also happy to include in my posts any discount codes, sales, or product links from vendors who provide samples.

Other personal notes: I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. I am a licensed agent/broker of property, casualty, life, accident, and health insurance in the state of Pennsylvania. I also hold the Certified Insurance Service Representative designation through the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research. Therefore, if you own or operate a tea related business in the state of Pennsylvania, I can even help with your business insurance!

If you are still reading at this point, then I truly appreciate your time and your willingness to learn about the Tea Journeyman. I invite you with much enthusiasm to join me on my journey through the world of tea, and try the teas that I am reviewing.

Thank you very much for your time and support! Cheers!

Tea is certainly a passion of mine, and it has helped me let go of several less healthy habits over the past two years.
